A Birth Doula is a trusted woman who attends the birthing
mother throughout her labour and birth. She provides, not only continuity of
care for the mother & her partner, but also support both physically and
emotionally to facilitate the birth experience in whichever way the mother
Evidence has shown that the attendance of a known and trusted
birth supporter increases the incidence of a normal, progressive and manageable
labour and birth and reduces the need for unnecessary intervention during the
labour and the chances of an instrumental or surgical birth.
Having attended hundreds of births as a midwife over my 20+
years’ experience I have personally witnessed the effect a constant trusted
supporter has on the process of birth.
I am experienced in supporting water birth,
home birth, planned hospital birth or planned/emergency caesarean section. I maintain an informed but non-judgemental
approach to ensure that the birthing mother remains at the centre of care and
that her preferences are respected.
My role as a Birth Doula is strictly non-clinical and focused
on being supportive to the mother and her partner throughout labour and birth
alongside the midwifery or medical staff who are responsible for the clinical
care of mother and baby.
My Birth Doula package includes:
. an initial meeting with you to talk through your choices and
to ensure that you are happy to choose me to attend your birth.
. being on call for your labour and birth from around 37 weeks of
pregnancy until your baby is born.
. a home visit following the birth to discuss your feelings
about your birth experience plus help with any feeding and settling in issues.
